MOTIVATION AND DESCRIPTION
The 13th edition of the International Computer Vision Summer School
aims to provide both an objective and clear overview and an in-depth
analysis of the state-of-the-art research in Computer Vision.

The last decade has seen a revolution in the theory and application of
computer vision and machine learning. In this edition, we look at the
emerging Computer Vision topics after Deep Learning revolution.

The courses will be delivered by world renowned experts in the field,
from both academia and industry, and will cover both theoretical and
practical aspects of real Computer Vision problems as well as examples
of their successful commercialisation.

The school aims to provide a stimulating opportunity for young
researchers and Ph.D. students. The selected participants will benefit
from direct interaction and discussions with world leaders in Computer
Vision. Participants will also have the possibility to present the
results of their research, and to interact with their scientific
peers, in a friendly and constructive environment.

SPECIAL SESSION - Industry meets Student
In addition to the academic programme, we are organizing a special
session to allow students to meet and learn about the opportunities
and activities at the world leading research laboratories and
companies which are exploiting computer vision.

READING GROUP (WITH PRIZE!)
http://iplab.dmi.unict.it/icvss2019/ReadingGroup

Good ideas have deep roots. Understanding such roots is key to being
able to generate new ideas moving forward. The main goal of the
Reading Group is to practice ways in which exploration of these roots
can be performed.

The homework prior to the commencement of the school consists in
studying (not just reading) one or more topics provided by the school
committee, and tracing the ideas as far back as you can. See the rules
of engagement for all details.

Detailed instructions with the rules of engagements will be sent to
students after acceptance notification.

ESSAY COMPETITION
http://iplab.dmi.unict.it/icvss2019/EssayCompetition

The essay competition reflects the importance of considering the
ै??real worldै? social impact of technology alongside the
fundamental goals of basic R&D.

Computer Vision is an area of scientific and technological development
that will continue to have a profound impact on society. It will
redefine the way in which information technology intersects and
interfaces with medicine and other disciplines, it will play a key
role in the care of an ageing population and it is already a
fundamental aspect of modern security technology.

Participants in the competition may write a piece of original work on
a topic. Detailed instructions with the rules of engagements will be
soon online.

POSTER SESSION
http://iplab.dmi.unict.it/icvss2019/CallForPosters

Accepted students may submit a poster to present their research
activity. The poster should be sent before 31 May 2019, 23:59, GMT
+2:00, Italy Time. Please, read the Call for Student Poster section
for poster guidelines.

A subset from the submitted posters will be selected by the school
committee for short oral presentation. A best presentation prize will
be given to the best presentation selected by the school committee.

SOCIAL EVENTS
In amongst a packed program of over 30 hours of school activities,
there will be time for a tour of the ancient and picturesque town of
Ragusa Ibla (RG) including the opportunity to experience the local
traditions in the form of folk dancing and a delicious feast featuring
many of the local delicacies. A social dinner and a party on the beach
(with Disco) are also part of the social program.
