PAMI TC Meeting at ICCV 2019

PAMI TC Meeting at ICCV 2019

Please join us for the next PAMI TC meeting on the evening of Tuesday,
October 29 in conjunction with ICCV 2019. The meeting will follow the
evening reception and overlap with the last part of the reception by
30 minutes, which should still give everyone planning to attend plenty
of time to enjoy the reception before coming to the meeting.

The motions to be voted on can be found below. Voting will be
conducted electronically at ICCV and will be open to all registered
attendees.

Motion 1 (yes/no):

ICCV organizing teams and locations will be selected six years in advance.

Rationale:

We currently select organizing teams and locations for ICCV four years
in advance. As our community has grown, this limits the availability
of suitable locations and increases the need to secure such locations
further in advance. This change also has the benefit of aligning our
geographic rotation with team/location selection: at meetings in each
geographic region (Asia/Oceania, Americas, Europe/Africa/Middle East)
we will vote on the next meeting in that region. If this motion
passes, we will vote at ICCV 2019 for ICCV 2023 as planned, then vote
at ICCV 2021 for ICCV 2027.

Motion 2 (pick one option):

If Motion 1 passes, the organizing team and location for ICCV 2025 will be selected as follows:

Option a) By the ICCV steering committee (the TC's executive committee).

Comments: Having the TC's executive committee make the selection gives
the selected organizing team the most lead time possible to secure a
suitable location. But the selection would not be by community vote,
which is our normal practice. Although this approach has been used
before for CVPR, ICCV is different in that it is held less frequently
and regularly moves between different countries.

Option b) By community vote at CVPR 2020.

Comments: This allows selection by a vote of the community as soon as
possible (our next major meeting) while still providing more than five
years lead time to secure the location. But it would be at CVPR, not
ICCV.

Motion 3 (yes/no):

ICCV will not be held in the same country for successive meetings
within a single geographic region.

Rationale: This promotes diversity in locations as we rotate through
our geographic rotation. If Motion 1 passes and we move to a six-year
selection window, this would prohibit selecting a location in the same
country as the current meeting.

Motion 4 (yes/no):

ICCV 2023 will be held in Paris, France with the following organizing team.

GCs: Jana Kosecka, Jean Ponce, Cordelia Schmid, Andrew Zisserman
PCs: Lourdes Agapito, Yasu Furukawa, Kristen Grauman, Kaimin He, Ivan Laptev
FCs: Ramin Zabih, Gerard Medioni
Professional meeting organizer: Nicole Finn

Proposals and preliminary budget:

Rationale:

We received only one proposal to organized ICCV 2023. Although the
ICCV charter allows the meeting’s steering committee (the TC’s
executive committee) to put together an alternative option if fewer
than two proposals are received, the steering committee strongly
supports this proposal and does not feel that organizing a competing
proposal is necessary. If the motion passes to ratify this proposal,
ICCV 2023 will be held in Paris as proposed. If it does not, the
steering committee will put together an alternative plan for the
meeting.
