Call for Participation

The EURASIP Summer School on Remote Sensing and Microscopy Image
Processing (SSRM) will be held between 29 July and 2 August 2024 in
Veszprem, Hungary - the 2023 European Capital of Culture.

SSRM is organized for graduate and PhD students as well as postdocs
and young researchers from all over the world! Participants will
benefit from direct interaction and discussions with world leaders in
the domain and also have the possibility to present their research,
and to interact with their scientific peers, in a friendly
international environment. The lectures will be given by world
renowned experts from both academia and industry, and will cover
theoretical and practical aspects of image processing for Remote
Sensing and Miscroscopy. In the afternoons students work in teams and
solve an assignment of reviewing and analyzing State of the Art of a
particular topic. On the last day of the Summer School, there will be
an exam about the lecture topics as well as teams present their
results to fellow participants and an evaluation committee (selected
from lecturers). The best works are awarded prizes. Students will
receive a certificate of attending the Summer School and passing the
exam. This Summer School is accepted as a special PhD course by
several Universities.  Should you have any questions or comments, do

Application/Registration

The school is open to about 30-50 qualified, motivated and
pre-selected students. In particular, MSc and PhD students, postdocs
and young researchers (both academic and industrial) are encouraged to
apply. Applications to attend SSRM should be submitted via the online
registration form before 1 July 2024. Applications will be evaluated
continuously and applicants will receive notification of acceptance
before 8 July 2024. Students are strongly encouraged to provide
information about previous expertise, related courses with grades, and
publications as well as the details of their poster presentation -
these are all taken into account during evaluation!

The expected school fee will be in the order of 190EUR for student
participants (student status justification is required!) and 300EUR
for non-student participants. Thanks to EURASIP sponsorship, all
participants (who has no active EURASIP membership yet) will benefit a
free EURASIP membership until 31/03/2025. The fee include all course
materials, coffee breaks, lunches, a guided tour of Veszprem, a
welcome party with folk dance and dinner, an excursion to the beach of
Lake Balaton with Hungarian natural wines tasting, and a Gala Dinner.

Travel Grant

Thanks to EURASIP sponsorship, a limited number of free accommodations
(in double rooms) will be available subject to successful
application. Details about the application procedure will be given
later in the acceptance notification.

Poster Presentation
Accepted students may present their research results in a special
poster session. You are encouraged to submit your presentation's
title, list of authors, and abstract along with your application!
Suitable space will be reserved to students for showing their
posters. The electronic version of the posters will also be available
from the SSRM web site.

Best Poster Prize

One best poster from the presented posters will be selected by the
school committee which will be awarded the Best Poster Prize. More
information about the technical procedure of the presentations will be
provided later in the notification email.

Accommodation

We recommend you to stay in the student hostel Magister Dormitory
(Magister Kollégium) of the University of Pannonia, which is located
in 12 minutes walking distance from the main venue. Rooms available:
 
room with two beds (twin room, 2 twin rooms share one bathroom):
                      6510 HUF/person/night
room with two beds (twin room, including bathroom):   8085 HUF/person/night
single room (only for one person, includes bathroom): 11730 HUF/person/night

These are special prices negotiated for the summer school. Rooms will
be booked by the organizers based on the information given later on
the registration payment form (details will be given in the
notification email after your application is accepted). The
accommodation fee should be paid in cash upon arrival at the student
hostel by the participants themself! It is also a possibility to book
a hotel in Veszprem on your own.

Venue/Travel

SSRM will be hosted by the Faculty of Information Technology,
University of Pannonia (Egyetem utca 2, 8200 Veszprém, Hungary).

Veszprém is about 110 km far from Budapest and easily accessible by
public transportation within 2 hours. Lake Balaton (14 km) and Bakony
mountains (20 km) are within easy reach with the ability of great
social programs. Perhaps the smallest wine region in Hungary, the
Somlo Hill is just 50km away - if you are interested in some of the
finest Hungarian natural wines from local producers then this is the
right place for you!

Arriving in Budapest by plane: Fly to Budapest Liszt Ferenc
International Airport (BUD). From the airport, you can get to a
railway or bus station by means of local transportation (for example
take the Bus 100E or 200E), and take a direct train or bus to
Veszprem. Or, you can rent a car and drive directly to Veszprem.
