Emerging Trends in Smart Waste Monitoring and Environmental Surveillance Call for Papers

We are pleased to announce the Topical Collection
Emerging Trends in Smart Waste Monitoring and Environmental Surveillance
https://link.springer.com/journal/521/updates/27851508

Waste management, illegal dumping, and environmental pollution require
increasingly intelligent monitoring solutions. Recent advances in
artificial intelligence and computer vision offer promising
opportunities, although key challenges remain, including robustness
across diverse environments, limited datasets and benchmarks, and
deployment on resource-constrained systems. The Topical Collection
provides a forum for researchers and industry professionals to present
novel methods, datasets, benchmarks, and real-world applications in
smart waste monitoring, illegal dumping detection, and pollution
surveillance, while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.

Topics of interest include:
- Waste detection and classification from images;
- Waste tracking and management from videos;
- Illegal dumping detection through computer vision;
- Multimodal systems for dumping identification;
- Remote sensing and UAV-based waste monitoring;
- Image and video analysis for pollution monitoring;
- Datasets and benchmarks;
- Real-world applications in urban and rural environments.
